New Ways to Treat Periodontal Diseases

WHAT IS PERIODONTAL DISEASE?

Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. Periodontal disease can affect one tooth or many teeth. It begins when the bacteria in plaque (the sticky, colorless film that constantly forms on your teeth) causes the gums to become inflamed. Periodontal (gum) diseases are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.

ATRIDOX

Atridox is an antibiotic gel that is placed gently into your gum pockets where bacteria thrive.  It then quickly hardens to a wax-like substance, slowly releasing the antibiotic to the infected area for seven days.

PERIOSTAT

An exciting new weapon in the fight against serious gum disease, Periostat is taken orally in capsule form, twice daily.  It is the first and only medication that suppresses the enzymes that cause gum disease.
